Windows 10 comes with many built-in apps, but there are also apps and programs you can download and install yourself. You certainly have your favorites, right? We use some apps on daily basis, and to make things more convenient, you can pin these apps and programs to the taskbar. Instead of clicking the Start button and going through the list of installed programs, you simply click on the icon of the program you pinned, and it will open. Simple and straightforward. If you are new to Windows OS, and you are not sure what steps you need to take, keep on reading. We are going to show you how to pin apps to taskbar in Windows 10.
Thank you for the replies. With regard to each suggestion:
1. Pyprohly - I entered the fully qualified path (both with a space between the quotation marks and without a space) and have the same result. Pin to Taskbar does not appear in Context Menu or when I drag it to the Taskbar I am not allowed to drop it. 2. whs - First I do not have the Windows Explorer icon on the Taskbar and if I did wouldn't I have to open Windows Explorer from its icon and then find my folder and click on it? I want the folder directly on the Taskbar. 3. ShoTTaS - When I search gpedit.msc and hit 'Enter', the Group Policy Editor does not open. FYI: I created a new text document on the desktop and renamed it to an .EXE. I ignored the popup warning about changing file types so I effectively had an EXE on the desktop. When I right click the icon the Context Menu has the option of pinning it to the Taskbar. I can also drag the icon to the Taskbar and it states 'Pin to Taskbar'. Regardless of the method used to pin it to the taskbar the icon DOES NOT appear on the taskbar. Windows 7 Cannot Pin To Taskbar

How to pin apps to taskbar in Windows 10: Opened app
There are two methods to pin apps to the taskbar in Windows 10. We will share both. For the first method, the app or a program you wish to pin should be opened. The entire process is extremely simple. Literally, a click, and you are done.
Here is what you need to do.
Open a program you wish to pin to the taskbar. Next, right-click on the icon of the app or the program, and then click “Pin to taskbar”.
That’s all. The app is now pinned, and each time you want to open it, you can do it right from the desktop. Just click on its icon.
How to pin apps to taskbar in Windows 10: From the Start menu
There is another method to pin apps and programs to the taskbar in Windows 10. Here, the app or a program should not be open.
Here are the steps you need to take.
Click on the Start button. Now go through the list of apps and programs. Find the app you wish to pin to the taskbar. Once you find it, right-click on it. Then, click Pin to Start.
Cannot Pin Shortcut To Taskbar
The app will now show up in the Start. Right-click on it again, and click more. Finally, click Pin to taskbar.
Both methods to pin apps to the taskbar are very simple. Choose the one that you find more convenient, and pin your apps and programs so that you can launch them right from your desktop.
So I ran into an interesting problem the other day when I tried to pin a program to the Windows 7 taskbar. Usually, I just right-click on the open application and say Pin this program to the taskbar:
Unfortunately, something happened, or I did something wrong and this option disappeared! So I tried to drag the icon to the taskbar, thinking that would work, but it didn’t either! Instead I got a red round sign that meant I could not drop the item to the taskbar. I figured something had gone wrong with the registry because I had tried to delete the overlay arrows on my desktop icons and fiddled with the registry. This can probably be caused by other reasons, but the fact is that there is a registry value called IsShortcut that somehow got accidentally deleted.
In this article, I’ll show you how to fix the problem, so you can again pin items to your Windows 7 taskbar! Hopefully, one of the methods will work for you. If not, post a comment and I’ll try to help. Note, however, that there are some programs that cannot be pinned to the taskbar.
Method 1 – Restore Shortcut Arrows
If you used a program to remove shortcut arrows on your desktop icons, then the first thing you should try is to restore those shortcut arrows. If you used a third-party program, then simply use that program to undo the removal. Try to restart your computer and then try to pin a program to the taskbar.
Method 2 – Registry Value
Open the registry editor by going to Start and typing in regedit. Then navigate to the following key:
Can't Pin Calculator To Taskbar Windows 10![]()
In the right-hand pane, go ahead and right-click and then choose New – String Value (REG_SZ). Name the new string IsShortcut and don’t give it any value. That’s it. Now go ahead and restart your computer. Check to see if you can pin items to the taskbar now.
If you don’t have the InkFile registry value at all on your computer, then try some of the other methods below.
Method 3 – Perform a System Restore
If method 1 didn’t work for you, then you can try a system restore. If the issue only started happening recently, then restoring will probably work. If you’ve had the issue for a long time, then trying a restore may not work if you can’t find one far enough back.
You can read my post on how to use system restore in Windows if you unsure on how to use the feature.
Black ops half life. How can the answer be improved? Mar 27, 2009 Story: You are a black ops male agent, sent to eliminate DR. Gallagher, former member of the Black mesa science team, who is hiding in the Dead end night club. You aren't able to find him, but in the warehouse, you hear a.357 Magnum being fired. Black Ops, sometimes hyphenated to Black-Ops, are a fictitious commando group briefly seen in the first-person shooter computer game Half-Life and later expanded upon and featured in its expansion pack Half-Life: Opposing Force. Working independently of the Hazardous Environment Combat Unit.
Method 4 – Enable Taskbar Pinned Programs
In Windows 7, you can actually enable and disable the entire pinned programs feature. This is obviously enabled by default, but it could have somehow gotten disabled if you’re having this problem. You can check out this post on how to enable pinned programs.
Method 5 – Perform a Repair Install
If the system restore didn’t work, then you might want to try doing a repair install of Windows 7. You can read the detailed instructions here:
Hopefully, one of these solutions has fixed your problem. If not, let us know and we’ll try to help! Enjoy!
