The Sims 4, the latest in EA's life simulation game, has only been out or three weeks and there are already a ton of different mods to change up the game. While most of the mods that are found on modthesims.info mainly focus on new clothing options, some of them are incredibly hilarious, or just downright useful. Here's a short list of the nine most helpful mods (well, eight mods and a mod manager) to help you get started creating the game you truly want to play.
A quick warning about mods for The Sims 4, and any other game, READ THE MOD DOCUMENTATION AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE INSTALLING ANY MOD. This should save you from a few headaches as you wonder why a mod doesn't seem working or even crashes your game. If you do make a fatal mistake and The Sims 4 just isn't running the same, simply uninstall all game files, and re-install them back to the base game with no mods at all. You'll be back to square one, but you at least have a working game again.
The Sims 4 Mod Manager
While this isn't a mod for The Sims 4, this guy will help you keep all of your other mods sorted out. The mod manager keeps all of the mods you download in a separate folder, and with the click of a checkbox, activates whichever mods you wish. No having to dive through game folders, no having to replace files that may or may not cause permanent damage, the mod manager takes a great deal of hassle out of experimenting with changing gameplay.
Graphics Tweaks
While not as extensive as say, the mods for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, there are a few graphical tweaks that can be made in The Sims 4. The first one helps improve the lighting, both indoors and outdoors. From the mod's description: 'This mod improves the lighting primarily indoors, and alters outdoor lighting a bit also. Indoors will be brighter than the default overall and Ambient light is spread throughout so walls will not be as dark and sims facing away from the light source will not be as dark. Sunlight entering through windows is greater than the default. Also the SS Ambient Occlusion is increased such that objects everywhere have a little more contrast and/or depth; the washed-out look of the entire game graphics is reduced a bit.' Basically, the lighting should appear more natural.
Do you get annoyed that your Sim cannot wistfully stare off into the distance? Well, now they can! By using this mod, the draw distance for The Sims 4 is greatly increased, reducing the blur found on the edges of locations. So for all you philosophizers out there, put on your thinking caps.
Helpful Mods For The Home
While it's fun to plot your Sim from low-level pencil pusher all the way up to corporate CEO, some of the more mundane household tasks can be a little dull. This first mod helps greatly reduces the chance that an object in your house will break. At default, The Sims 4 features a 67% chance that an object will break, which is really high. By using this mod, the percent chance of breakage can be set at either 5%, 15%, or 30%. This lets your Sim spend less time tinkering away at the bathroom sink, and more time exploring more gainful pursuits like art or relationship building.
This second mod is actually just a new item that has been created for The Sims 4. Labeled as the 'Super Hamper,' this new clothes bin will automatically collect all of the piles of dirty clothes thrown on the floor, saving you time and making your Sim happier.
Call Your Family To Dinner
This mod is pretty extensive, and offers a wide variety of options. By clicking on any group meal that has been created, a new command called 'Call to Meal' will be available. When selected, players can manually select who will come eat from a list of those in the area. Once the dining guests are selected, the sim who you commanded to perform the 'Call to Meal' action will then dish up one serving of food for each person. The Sims who have been summoned will sit down at a place setting and start to eat.
Changing Your Sims
The last three mods on the list all work to change features about your already-created Sims family. The first one allows you to modify both the names of Sims as well as their genders. This works for both the Sims you control and have created as well as on neighbors. Make sure you read the description on this mod especially, as there are a few warnings about stability. According to the mod's creator, there shouldn't be an issue with using this mod, but full testing hasn't been done yet. Proceed with caution.
Sims 4 Child Body Mod
So we can change any Sim's name and gender, what else is there? Age! Want to watch your kid grow up right in front of your eyes? Simply turn on this mod, and watch little Timmy shoot through puberty and start preferring being called 'Timothy' like an adult. Do your virtual neighbors have a baby that just won't shut up? Easily make that child a young adult and get him or her shipped off to college. That takes care of THAT noise problem!
Cannot pin to taskbar windows 8. How can the answer be improved?
For the last mod on this list, it is now possible to change how long our Sim's pregnancy can last for. There are four different versions of this mod, with each one changing the length of the pregnancy to different time increments. Pregnancies can now last for either 1 day, 9 days, 18 days, and 30 days, depending on which version of the mod is installed. Even better, this mod will work with the Babies For Everyone mod that allows any Sim to become pregnant.
So there you have it. Nine different mods for The Sims 4 that should both improve gameplay, and make your life a little easier. Seeing as how The Sims 4 hasn't even been out for a full month yet, expect to see more helpful and time-saving mods added in the future. Do you think you'll be using any of these additions? Is there something you would like to see modded that hasn't been yet? Let us know in the comments section below.

Think the modding community can’t get any better? You’re wrong. Talented modder Lumia Sims has just released Experimental Presets and Custom Sliders for The Sims 4!
This mod allows you to manipulate several points on a Sim including, fingers, hand size, ears, and facial asymmetry. For more information on the mod and to add this beauty into your game, head over to Lumia Sims’ Tumblr!
The Sims as a franchise might be headed toward a fiery death in the near future but that doesn’t stop us modders from making the game our own!
Introducing a Sims 4 first–custom sliders and presets! The first of many to come.
This began mainly as an experiment, debugging and testing out countless iterations of MorphMaker, developed by the ingenious CmarNYC, and the results of my experimentation turned out to be quite useful to release!
As this is a brand new type of mod, I can’t verify its stability over time which is why I gave it the EXPERIMENTAL title.
Don’t let the big scary EXPERIMENTAL stamp scare you, however. As far as I know, this mod is purely cosmetic and will not break your game. (For example, if you download a Sim that is using one of these mods, and you don’t have it in your game, the Sim will revert to default presets.)
Sims 4 Body Mods Male
Lets get into the nitty-gritty of the mods, shall we?
CONTINUE…
Real Groceries
Best Sims 4 Realistic Mods
We as humans have a strange relationship with corporate branding. On the one hand, it’s tacky and gross when it’s forced down our throats. Just ask any Cleveland Cavaliers fan who has to watch their home games at Quicken Loans Arena (note: as of this month, there may not actually be any Cleveland Cavalier fans anymore).

Despite this, we feel giddy when it helps lend legitimacy to our experiences; case and point, these groceries that bear the names of brands you’ll recognize. There’s a huge range, from Capri-Sun to Gillette, and everywhere in between. There’s even Tesco baskets, because every little helps!
…That’s not a typo, it’s the actual slogan of Tesco. It is infuriating.
Lower Salaries
Best Sims 4 Realistic Mods
When we were kids, we were told that if you study hard, follow your dream, and work your butt off, you’ll be able to achieve your wildest dreams. Fast forward a few years, and we’ve learnt the hard way that that may not be the case. Also, Sheng Long isn’t real either, so stop looking for him.
The Sims 4 is perhaps a little generous with its wage distribution, so it might be time to bite the bullet and inject a little reality into your game by offering your poor Sims a pittance for their efforts of backbreaking labor. Now if only we could find a mod that made it so crime wasn’t so openly advertised, because that’s killing the illusion even more.
No Tree Fade

Best Sims 4 Realistic Mods
This mod stops trees and bushes from fading when you approach them, as you may have surmised from the name of this mod.
If this doesn’t sound like the kind of thing that excites you, and you are indeed pondering aloud ‘who would require such a ridiculous mod? Balderdash’ – your monocle plunging into your martini with a seething rage. First off, who are you talking to? Second, this mod has more than 4,000 downloads on Mod the Sims alone. Trust us, there’s a market for this. So leaf us alone.
Stretch Marks
Best Sims 4 Realistic Mods
Every body type is different, and sometimes, your skin will do all kinds of things. Stretch marks are a common occurrence, particularly after a pregnancy or significant weight loss – and now, we have a mod that lets your Sims show that natural can be sexy, too.
There are a whole slew of variations to place it on different parts of the body for that all-over effect. Since they are effectively considered tattoos, it may take a little bit of tinkering before you find one that suits your Sim’s particular skin tone. Failing that, you can just claim it’s some really avant garde ink.
Cat & Dog Statues
Best Sims 4 Realistic Mods
Keen on a cute little pooch or kitty of your very own, but not quite sold on the Cats & Dogs expansion just yet? Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a way to test the waters without having to fully commit? Well, there is! …And there isn’t… Because with this mod, you’ll be able to sample the joys of being a pet owner! …In potentially the most macabre way possible.
Here, you’re treated to some cat and dog statues to adorn your abode, modelled exactly after the appearance of pets in the Cats & Dogs expansion. Why, they look so lifelike, you almost wonder where they came from! Unless… Oh good heavens, no…
Real Eyes – Cats & Dogs
Best Sims 4 Realistic Mods
On the note of cats and dogs, have you ever felt like our furry friends weren’t quite done justice in certain aspects of their design? Try this mod out, and you won’t be haunted by their dead stares any longer, for you will have realized the potential of real eyes! That joke gets about a 3.5/10.
Applying this will give a range of colors and depth to the animals’ peepers that make them feel just that little bit more vivified. If you’ve ever wondered what a ragdoll with bedroom eyes might look like, this is probably it.
More Realistic Restaurant
Best Sims 4 Realistic Mods
The Sims 4 allows you to experience the stress and euphoria that comes with running your own restaurant. I assume that these are feelings that come with running your own restaurant, because in fairness, I’ve never done one. I do tend to go through stress and euphoria when I microwave SpaghettiO’s, however.
Alas, it operates in the framework of the game’s mandates, which means that it’s pretty much popping 24 hours a day, as if your city is filled with insomniacs. If this doesn’t suit your fancy, you might like to try this mod, which allocates more business during the evening hours when people are eating dinner. Additionally, the skill of your cook will now dictate the quality of the meal, which makes sense. No reason why a 5-star chef should be dumping half-eaten heads of cabbage on the table with casual indifference, right?
Realistic Teeth
Best Sims 4 Realistic Mods
Everyone needs a good set of chompers, unless you’re fond of meals consisting chiefly of mushed up goop. Alas, our poor Sims are lumped with rather mediocre teeth that hardly inspire confidence.
But no mas! With a click flick of the mod, you’ve now implanted some fine looking dentures to give your Sim that million dollar smile. It’s a little unnerving at first, but you’ll soon get used to it. Maybe just sleep with the light on, lest they visit you in the night, their toothy grin the last thing you ever see.
M.I.L.K Jasmine Skin
Best Sims 4 Realistic Mods
Funnily enough, there are actually a whole bunch of skin-related mods floating about the Internet for you to choose from, a rather unexpected revelation that reveals some insight into your average Sims modder. Harry Potter was onto something, after all.
Narrowing it down can be a tricky bit of business, but we personally prefer for our flesh-related modifications to err on the side of uncanny. Enter the M.I.L.K Jasmine skin, which makes your Sims look like… well, the mind races, really. The level of shading and detail really is something else, to the point where it may look like you’re playing an entirely different game. Take note, there are a few snafus with the finer details, but the overall package is quite stunning.
Hardy SKIN
Best Sims 4 Realistic Mods
You didn’t think we would leave the fellas hanging, did you? No sirree, we were quick to track down a gorgeous, chiseled physique to leave most men feeling inferior. Don’t cry into your pillow, cry into his robust pectoral muscles instead. He feeds off your misery.
The only drawback of this mod is that we can’t help but wonder what exactly he’s doing in the reverse image up there. It can’t be unseen.
Realistic Ageing
Best Sims 4 Realistic Mods
Treat your Sims right (feed them, house them, don’t light them on fire unless absolutely necessary) and they will live to a ripe old age. Curiously however, the game plays with the concept of time a little bit loosely, and their ageing patterns don’t quite correspond with reality.
With the addition of this mod, the stages of their life will more closely resemble that of an average human being. It’s a lot more drawn out and you may not see the fruit of your labors until you yourself have gone old and gray, but stick with it, and a wizened old nana will be your reward.
SkySims Hair
Best Sims 4 Realistic Mods
Sift through Sims mods long enough and you’ll find, much like the drain of your shower, it is absolutely overflowing with hair. It all comes down to preference which route you’d like to take to make your dream Sim. Want something stylish? Click here. Prefer something elegant? Try this one. Hope to look like Rico Constantino from mid-2000’s WWE programming? Of course you do.
Narrowing down the selection can prove to be harrowing. But when all was said and done, we simply couldn’t pass up on the gorgeous locks of SkySims hair. Long, flowing and delicate, it’s the perfect accoutrement to almost any Sim.

HD Feet
Best Sims 4 Realistic Mods
Feet are very important to a certain subset of the community. To some, they are the pinnacle of human beauty, and a topic of great discussion. To others, they’re those smelly things you walk on. No matter which way you lean, there’s no denying that the Sims 4’s take on feet leave a lot to be desired. Looking more like a fleshy slipper than actual tootsies, there has been a lot of mods to rectify this problem.
Sorting through them is a feat in and of itself (pseudo pun), but we like to think that most will be satisfied with these detailed trotters. Just one look and you’ll be tickled pink! …Or maybe you won’t, but for the sake of the pun, we’ll assume you will.
Realistic Clouds
Best Sims 4 Realistic Mods
Here’s one for the dreamers, and the nephologists out there, to a lesser extent.
After all, you may not always be looking down at the floor and dwelling on your Sims’ feet, and there’s a great big sky up above. No need to settle for subpar clouds; use this mod and you’ll be in awe of the accumulation of cumulus. The serious cirrus. The altered altostratus. And whatever other kind of cringeworthy cloud alliteration you can come up with.
Higher, Harder Bills
Best Sims 4 Realistic Mods
Thought we’d leave you on a dour note.
After all the fun and frivolity of mods about clouds and feet, we close this list with a mod that reflects the crushing enormity of adult life. How are you going to pay the bills in time? Especially when the rates just keep climbing higher and higher as your house value increases?
Between this and the lower wages mod, you’ll be crying yourself to sleep in no time. Have fun!

Modders are back at it again! Luumiasims, who released the custom sliders set, has just released a Height Slider Mod! This mod comes with caveats and disclaimers, but looks to be a great addition to the game overall. Download the mod now!
Height Slider
I found it difficult to keep up with the many different (broken and non-broken) height sliders for Sims out there, so I decided to simplify it and make it available in CAS!
The height slider is based off of simmythsims’ original Tall/Short slider, with a few tweaks. Sims’ midriff, head, hands, and feet now scale proportionately to the size of the body. This slider can be used by dragging the neck up and down from the front of the Sim.
Four different height body presets, Short, Medium Short, Medium Tall, and Tall, are also available, in case you don’t want to manually adjust the height yourself. Thumbnails for body presets are broken at this time so the presets will show up without a thumbnail. Just click through them to see which one is which.
Headphones and speakers at the same time. The slider and preset are Teen and older only, as kids and tots have awful distortion when trying to adjust height.
